When Cygni was founded in 2006 we had a simple vision. We wanted to create the best possible workspace for skilled and motivated IT consultants. This vision is something that we have used as a guideline for running the company, every major decision we've taken through the years has been based on the question: Will we be a better employer if we do this?
Will we be a better employer if we do this?
So, how do we usually go about it, how do we make changes or take major decisions? Well, the answer is simple, we talk and listen to our employees. One area where I feel that we really stand out is our communication. We have company-wide discussions that are completely open and transparent.
Last year the we held our yearly spring conference in the lovely alpine town of Engelberg. We enjoyed lots of skiing, paragliding and other fun activities but after the skiing we had a more serious session. We split up in different committees focusing on four topics – diversity/equality, how to do conferencing in the future, which customers to focus on, and finally how to work with international expansion. There were many interesting discussions and the output from these sessions is part of what we've been working with since then.
I love the fact that this is way we work, open, transparent, and anyone who wants to pitch in gets their voice heard.
A lot has happened since the Engelberg conference. We have started new offices in Sweden where the employees from our existing offices has handled the recruitment. In addition to that we have started our first site abroad in the fabulous city of Amsterdam, what a great place for international expansion! A city with friendly, open minded people and a vibrant IT scene. I have a feeling that Cygni will fit right in.
I believe that when you involve the employees and let them set the direction of the company, they tend to be more involved, and more committed to do great work. And the fact that we are super picky when we're recruiting helps a lot to make our employees feel proud.
Now our team have voted us to be the Best Workplace in Europe for the fifth time. We are extremely proud of this award, and I think it is a solid acknowledgement that we have the right idea on how to involve the staff! This year the banquet is held in Stockholm. As usual, we choose to celebrate our wins together so we have booked a full table for the ceremony that takes place at the Stockholm City Hall where the Nobel Prize banquet is usually held. The photos below are from the terrace at the Stockholm office where we built up the atmosphere before the gala!
If you want to know more, please don't hesitate to contact us. We will be more than happy to meet you if you are a motivated developer who wants challenging assignments, a great benefit package, skilled colleagues and most importantly – to have fun!
